I wanted to just briefly review the assignment for Snapshot #1. I know that we reviewed this in class, but I wanted to make sure that everyone (including those who were not in class) had the requirements.
As I said in class, given that we’ve missed a couple of days of class because of snow and teaching demonstrations, this assignment will be a little more informal than it was initially intended. Here’s the assignment:
- Write a 2-3 page (double-spaced) response to the course materials and discussion up to this point. You should focus primarily on the text The Rhetoric of Agitation and Control, but you are welcome to include thoughts on our class discussions or the film This is What Democracy Looks Like.
- This paper is meant to be a “snapshot” of your thinking at this point in time. You should not try to write a definitive assessment of the book or feel the need to “take a position” on what you have read. The idea here is to try and represent the complexity of your thinking at the moment. Take the metaphor of a snapshot seriously. A snapshot (unlike an art photo or a photo from a photojournalist) generally pays less attention to perfect composition as it does to capturing a moment in time. Think of the pictures you take with your phone or when on a trip someplace.
- Cite any direct references to passages or quotes (MLA preferred, but use whatever citation form you are most comfortable with).
- DUE: Wednesday, February 24
Let me know if you have any questions!
